Abstract

El propósito del presente estudio es lo de determinar una definición de sostenibilidad que pueda ser aplicada a la evaluación de los sistemas agrícolas Latinoamericanos. Se ha realizado un análisis de la literatura científica para revisar los criterios de inclusión de los indicadores de sostenibilidad para identificar la definición implícita en ellos. Los criterios indican que la evaluación de la sostenibilidad debe tener dos características principales: ser un proceso riguroso fundado en metodología científica y poder aportar mejora al sistema evaluado. Se concluye que para poder aplicarse al entorno Latinoamericano la evaluación de sostenibilidad deba considerar las necesidades e intereses específicos del entorno, enfocarse en la participación directa de los stakeholders y no depender de la lógica del mercado global.
