Las Áreas Protegidas Como Espacios Para Fomentar El Desarrollo Sostenible Y El Turismo Comunitario. Un Estudio De Caso Exitoso

Abstract

Las áreas protegidas son zonas naturales de gran valor ecológico, donde se pueden realizar diferentes actividades en contacto con la naturaleza, siempre y cuando no se deteriore el área natural. En este sentido, el Monumento Natural Saltos de la Damajagua es un caso de éxito en lo referente a desarrollo sostenible, gestionándose un recurso a través del turismo comunitario, ofreciendo beneficios a las comunidades locales y fomentando la conservación del área natural. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar un caso de éxito sobre turismo comunitario sostenible en República Dominicana, con la finalidad de que se implemente en otras áreas protegidas del país. La metodología ha consistido en una combinación de fuentes primarias (entrevista y observación participante) y secundarias (revisión de la literatura científica y manuales del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales).
