Abstract

El objeto de la siguiente reseña es interpretar minuciosamente el sentido que Veblen quiso darle a su teoría sobre “la clase ociosa” como así también su relación con el mundo académico universitario. En la actualidad, la bibliografía especializada en turismo apunta a la construcción de la clase ociosa, sólo como una forma de consumo de bienes y servicios de naturaleza ostentosa. En este punto, se considera a los “turistas” como verdaderos exponentes de la misma. Sin embargo, ¿estamos seguros de que esto sea así?, ¿no son los propios intelectuales parte de la mismo grupo del cual desdeñan?. Por tal motivo, consideramos oportuno realizar una nueva lectura de los hallazgos, y reflexiones del autor.
