¿Déficit o superávit?: Un falso debate ideológico

Abstract

Este artículo sale al paso del error –desde mi punto de vista- de adscribir a una corriente de pensamiento de izquierda la necesidad u obligación de incurrir en déficit presupuestarios y a las corrientes de derecha –predominantemente neoliberales- la defensa del superávit. Ni por la misión que debe cumplir la evolución de los déficit y superávit en la política macroeconómica –en concreto las políticas anticíclicas- que enseña la macroeconomía, ni por la evidencia empírica de las políticas presupuestarias de Europa y EE.UU. y otros países según varían la alternancia de gobiernos de izquierda/derecha, puede defenderse semejante correlación. El artículo defiende que lo que hace de izquierdas o de derechas son las políticas macroeconómicas destinadas a la redistribución de la renta y la riqueza y las referidas al tamaño del presupuesto.
