El tejido empresarial gaditano durante el primer tercio del siglo XIX: una aproximación histórica

Abstract

Tradicionalmente, la posición estratégica y geográfica de la ciudad de Cádiz le ha otorgado una notable ventaja competitiva con respecto a otras localidades, lo que unido al comercio colonial a lo largo del siglo XVIII y a las oportunidades que ofrecía su puerto, propiciaron el establecimiento de un gran número de compañías mercantiles en la capital hacia la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Por ello, este artículo se centra en el análisis del tejido empresarial gaditano en el primer tercio de la centuria decimonónica, al objeto de dar a conocer la evolución y las tendencias económicas y empresariales de la ciudad en un período caracterizado por diversos acontecimientos socioeconómicos y políticos que causaron una gran inestabilidad e incertidumbre en la actividad comercial de la plaza gaditana.
