Os polos de desenvolvimento e o aumento da desigualdade no espaço construído da região metropolitana do Recife

Abstract

A necessidade de se empreender um desenvolvimento que levasse em consideração a redução das desigualdades sociais foi amplamente difundida em diversos países. Foi também ampliada a reflexão sobre o que significaria o desenvolvimento e de que forma este poderia imprimir ganhos econômicos e benefícios sociais, principalmente às parcelas menos favorecidas da população. Diante disto, esta pesquisa objetiva investigar o potencial estruturador de desenvolvimento dos polos de concentração de grandes projetos e investimentos no contexto da Região Metropolitana do Recife-Pernambuco-Brasil. É fruto de reflexões realizadas em pesquisa no Programa Nacional de Pós-Doutorado/Capes que teve como lócus de análise os grandes empreendimentos da Região Metropolitana do Recife (RMR). Identificou-se que o estabelecimento dos grandes polos de crescimento, em diversos casos, não foi suficiente para imprimir significativas melhorias nas condições de vida das populações que circundam estes empreendimentos.
