Abstract

O jopará, fenômeno linguístico caracterizado pela mistura das línguas guarani e espanhol, é comum em ambientes informais ou familiares no Paraguai, podendo ser observada na redação de jornais populares. Assim, este artigo apresenta uma análise de todas as matérias de todas as edições do mês de maio de 2011 do jornal Diario Popular, procurando discutir e entender a presença do jopará nesse contexto. A metodologia combina os estudos que observam os aspectos sociais e antropológicos, além do processo histórico responsável por manter em uso esta forma de linguagem. Os resultados mostram que no Paraguai, devido aos fatores observados, sobretudo sociais, a língua jopará, em comparação ao guarani e ao espanhol, ocupa uma posição inferior, quanto aos embates e lutas por representação, encontrando espaço nas páginas policiais do jornal analisado.
