DISTANCIAMENTO ENTRE TEORIA E PRà TICA NO TURISMO: reflexões sobre uma ação malsucedida em um destino turístico

Abstract

Neste ensaio, reflete-se sobre o distanciamento entre teoria e prática no turismo, com o olhar crítico voltado para uma ação da Secretaria Municipal de Turismo de São Luís (SETUR), Maranhão, Brasil, no ano de 2006. Tais reflexões perpassam questões sobre teoria, prática e visão crítica em Turismo. Ao analisar as considerações da cientista social Emilene Sousa sobre uma iniciativa malsucedida da SETUR, nota-se que esta é uma discussão ainda necessária. Os discursos e as atitudes dos profissionais, dentre eles alguns bacharéis em turismo, apontam para um dos eixos do duplo vício do distanciamento entre teoria e prática, em que há desvalorização e/ou desconhecimento da teoria. Munidos de uma postura crítica, é possível desconstruir a polarização entre efeitos negativos/positivos do turismo, academia/mercado e, sobremaneira, teoria/prática. Mas não é uma desconstrução simples, não é a crítica pela crítica. Refere-se ao conhecimento crítico que busca e promove a transformação de uma realidade medíocre. Com isso, pretende-se somar com a compreensão das consequências da dita ruptura (teoria X prática) para a realidade de comunidades frente ao turismo.
