Abstract

En este artículo se concibe a la educación como un proceso complejo que impacta de manera sustantiva en todos los aspectos del quehacer social. Este proceso llamado educación debe entenderse e interpretarse en contextos sociales, históricos, políticos y culturales particulares. Así mismo, este artículo describe las aportaciones que algunos filósofos, pedagogos y teóricos han hecho a la educación en occidente y al concepto mismo de educación en diversos momentos de la historia. Aquí sólo se mencionan algunos personajes tales como los Sofistas, Sócrates, Martín Lutero, Comenio, Paulo Freire, entre otros. Finalmente, se pone de manifiesto que la educación es acción y que para entenderla hay que estudiarla a partir de su propia realidad.
