Da Jamaica Ao Brasil: Por Uma Histã“Ria Social Do Reggae

Abstract

Neste escrito o leitor encontrará um breve relato sobre a história social do reggae. Objetiva-se discutir um pouco sobre sua origem (entendida como uma fusão de elementos das culturas africana, caribenha, inglesa e norte-americana) e sua significativa relação com os movimentos sociais e religiosos da Jamaica. Analisa-se também, à guisa de conclusão, a chegada desse som ao Brasil, destacando-se alguns dos processos de apropriação e ressignificação locais, bem como a forma como os mercados fonográficos de cada região o recepcionaram. As palavras que seguem consistem, pois, em um esforço teórico que teve como finalidade apreender (considerando-se as limitações) o percurso histórico do reggae: da Jamaica ao Brasil.
