Medios De Comunicación, Violencia Y Turismo En México

Abstract

El artículo que aquí se presenta reflexiona profundamente sobre los efectos de la producción y difusión mediática de noticias sobre violencia en México. Desde el 2006, con la “guerra contra el narco” de Felipe Calderón, mucho se ha hablado de las consecuencias que la violencia vivida en México ha tenido sobre la propia economía del país. En concreto el sector turístico se ha visto ampliamente afectado y hoy en día no es difícil oír noticias donde las embajadas de determinados países recomiendan encarecidamente a sus ciudadanos no visitar determinadas zonas de México, consideradas muy violentas. Esto se produce a la vez que multitud de noticias sobre la violencia en el país inundan las secciones internacionales de cientos de diarios alrededor del mundo. Incluso, desde determinados sectores se indica que los medios exageran y manipulan la realidad para “vender” las noticias y conseguir audiencias al precio que sea. Las consecuencias mediáticas se palpan en el ejercicio de la profesión periodística: una parte de los profesionales de la información están siendo limitados por presiones externas en el ejercicio de su labor. Mientras, el sector turístico en México sigue sufriendo las consecuencias de una imagen “negativa” que ha quedado grabada en la retina de las audiencias y potenciales turistas.
