Sociabilidad Científica En Una Ciudad Cubana, A Finales Del Siglo Xix. El Centro Médico Farmacéutico De Cienfuegos (1881-1884)

Abstract

El lugar y significación de la ciencia y la tecnología en la historia y cultura nacionales han sido insuficientemente abordados por la historiografía cubana. Tal realidad se acentúa, de manera particular, en el caso de las investigaciones realizadas desde la perspectiva de la Historia Social y se descubre, aún más sensible, al vincularlos con los estudios de historia regional y local. Como consecuencia, son muy raros los trabajos que revelen la influencia del binomio ciencia-tecnología en todas las aristas del devenir socio-cultural de regiones, ciudades y poblados del interior del país. La fundación del Centro Médico Farmacéutico de Cienfuegos, hecho que tuvo lugar en el año 1881, es la primera manifestación concreta de asociacionismo científico ocurrida fuera de la capital de Cuba durante el último tercio del siglo XIX. Es precisamente la labor de este Centro y su impronta en la sociedad cienfueguera de entonces, uno de los objetos de la historia local y regional que aún exige la atención de los investigadores.
