Abstract

El nacimiento del Estado-Nación cubano, al menos en teoría, coincide con el inicio de la Guerra de los Diez Años, y de manera específica con la celebración de la Asamblea Constituyente de Guáimaro. El historiador Sergio Aguirre ratifica ese planteamiento cuando afirma que “la nación cubana surge en la década 1868-1878”, mientras que otros investigadores, entre los que destaca Eduardo Torres-Cuevas, manifiestan que “lo que nace en la Asamblea Constituyente de Guáimaro en 1869 es el proyecto de Estado Nacional”. En cualquier caso, la problemática en torno al mismo encuentra sus orígenes concretos en este período.
