Filosofia Na/Da América Latina: A Importância Do “Americanista” Leopoldo Zea

Abstract

Nascido em 1912, Leopoldo Zea é o principal representante do grupo de pensadores mexicanos “americanistas”, assim chamado por se ocupar, com base em Ortega y Gasset (+1955), do problema da América Latina e de seu lugar na história da cultura universal. Discípulo de Antônio Caso (+1946), admirador de Samuel Ramos (+1959), Zea foi influenciado fortemente por José Gaos (+1969), do grupo de Ortega, exilado no México. Zea é influenciado por Ortega y Gasset através de J. Gaos e de S. Ramos. De Ortega aceita a concepção histórica da humanidade e da cultura, concepção que implica na capacidade criadora do homem. Assim, a importância que Zea dá à história da cultura, leva-o a pesquisar a mentalidade do povo mexicano através de sua filosofia. Neste filão, podem situar-se as obras sobre o positivismo no México e outras dedicadas à filosofia mexicana e americana. Tais obras são a premissa e a base de apoio para pesquisar o significado e o destino da América.
