Abstract

Diversas son las definiciones y los puntos de vista adoptados respecto de los conceptos de bilingüismo y diglosia. Tal vez la definición más extendida de bilingüismo es la que da F. Vallverdu: “Nos referimos a bilingüismo cuando una persona utiliza de forma alternada dos lenguas para usos similares y con familiaridad.” A menudo las definiciones no delimitan a estos conceptos de forma adecuada. Como prueba de ello, M. Alvar refiere las incoherencias que, según su propio parecer, contienen las definiciones de la R.A.E.:
