El Esperpento: Visión Teatral, Visión Vital

Abstract

Según la Real Academia Española, "esperpento" es un hecho grotesco o desatinado. Más específicamente, el término se utiliza para designar un estilo literario creado por Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, y que se caracteriza por la deformación grotesca de la realidad, al servicio de una implícita intención crítica de la sociedad. Como afirmó Valle-Inclán en Luces de Bohemia (obra representativa del estilo y donde este es definido), "el sentido trágico de la vida española sólo puede ofrecerse con una estética sistemáticamente deformada". Esta técnica se empleó también en la trilogía Martes de Carnaval y tiene sus precedentes en Quevedo y Francisco de Goya. Algunas de sus características son:
