Abstract

El fotógrafo Eugène Atget se identificó toda su vida profesional como fotógrafo, nunca como artista. Es a través de su interacción con Berenice Abbott y Man Ray que sus imágenes comienzan a ser consideradas artísticas. La responsabilidad de decidir quién es un artista generalmente recae en las mentes de los artistas mismos, sin embargo esto no sucede en la fotografía. Como entes sociales, la fotografía y el arte difieren en un aspecto estructural, mientras la primera se trata de un sistema completamente abierto, el arte tiende a cerrarse sobre sí mismo. Esta apertura se produce como resultado de la relación doble vincular que existe dentro de la fotografía donde las intenciones de fotógrafos y máquinas se oponen constantemente mientras fotografían el mundo.
