O Comércio Da Pintura No Brasil Na Primeira Metade Do Século Xix

Abstract

O mercado de artes contemporânea no Brasil beneficiou-se da existência, ainda pouco estudada, da compra e venda de pinturas no início do século XIX. Embora os artistas dependessem de outras atividades para sobreviver, existia, ao contrário do que se afirma, um incipiente comércio de pintura no Rio de Janeiro. Como na Paris de meados do século XVIII, este mercado seria dominado pelos artistas, e pouco especializado. A situação política do Brasil colônia implicava fortes ligações a Portugal mas constatamos uma demanda interna por pinturas de cavalete, que viria a expandir-se no decorrer do século.
