Las manifestaciones artísticas de La Sultana de Oriente: Valladolid, Yucatán, México

Abstract

Desde el inicio de la conquista y colonización de la Península de Yucatán se planeó ubicar una ciudad española sobre alguna de las antiguas capitales de los kuchkabalo'ob mayas (ciudades-estado con amplia zona de influencia) en el Oriente de la Península. La ciudad fundada para ser el establecimiento hispánico en dicha microregión fue Valladolid que se construyó sobre las ruinas de la capital del kuchkabal de los cupulo'ob: Zací. El presente artículo presenta las principales manifestaciones artísticas de Valladolid, Yucatán, México que han llegado hasta nuestros días. En una zona ampliamente impactada por el turismo dada su cercanía a Cancún, Cozumel y la Riviera Maya, Valladolid se ha convertido en un imprescindible relicario de tesoros culturales donde convergen arte y sociedad.
