Goya en la Colección del Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias

Abstract

En la última década el Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias ha consolidado la unidad de su colección estable dedicada a registrar el arte español del siglo XVIII. El arranque de este proceso está estrechamente relacionado con la recepción en el año 2000, en concepto de pago tributario, de uno de los retratos pintados por Francisco de Goya de su amigo el ilustrado gijonés Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, que estuvo en un lugar relevante de su casa natal hasta la desafortunada enajenación promovida por sus herederos durante la posguerra española. Por otra parte, la principal colección pública de arte existente en el Principado de Asturias incluye otro retrato, esta vez del monarca Carlos IV procedente de otra dación, la efectuada por la heredera universal de Pedro Masaveu Peterson que liquidó de este modo parte de los impuestos sucesorios que adeudaba.
