Abstract

With the growing prevalence of obesity and physical inactivity among children and adolescents, the need for effective physical activity interventions is greater than ever. These risk factors are strongly linked with negative health outcomes, including type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, reduced bone mineral density, musculoskeletal injuries, diminished functional ability, and overall reduced quality of life. Addressing these concerns requires targeted approaches that are both safe and effective for youth populations. Strength training has emerged as one mechanism for remediation. This review addresses misconceptions associated with youth strength training, outlines current guidelines for safe participation, and provides recommendations for future research.
