Abstract

This study investigates the question: Does the mental rehearsal of the non-dominant hand enhance its performance and the performance of the contralateral limb and transferring motor skills? The study included sixteen participants who were handball players who engaged in mental practice focused on their non-dominant hands during motor tasks. The results indicate that the mental rehearsal of one limb positively influences the performance of the opposite, or contralateral, limb. The important conclusion is that enhancing contralateral limb performance is a strategy in motor skills transferring learning, contributing to holistic development, and optimizing an athlete’s potential, as well as proving useful in rehabilitation and motor skill acquisition.
