Macroprolactinoma in a Young Man: Clinical Presentation, Diagnostic Evaluation, and Treatment Outcomes

Abstract

Background: Pituitary tumors are now known as pituitary neuroendocrine tumours (PiTNETs). Microprolactinomas are common in women, whereas in men, these tumors are usually large, invasive, and may be aggressive. Case Report: We report a young patient with a large pituitary tumour (22 × 25 × 30 mm) presenting with hyperprolactinemia (PRL > 100.000,00uIU/ml). In the prolactinoma case, treatment with cabergoline led to a significant reduction in serum prolactin (PRL) levels and a decrease in tumor size.Conclusion: Prolactinoma in young men can be treated conservatively with cabergoline, yielding good biochemical and radiological responses.
