Examining the Cognitive and Psychological Effects of Beauty Care on Older Adults

Abstract

Introduction: Beauty care for older adults has recently been recognized for its positive effects on physical, psychological, social, and cognitive functions. This study aimed to clarify the cognitive and psychological effects of beauty care, factors affecting cognitive function, and feelings experienced in this process among older women at a community-based day service facility. Methods: This study included 16 participants aged 65 years and older, who were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received beauty care as per their preference once a month for an hour, for a total of three times. The control group did not receive any interventions. Cognitive function and Subjective Well-Being Scale scores were assessed in both groups before and after the intervention. Qualitative data gathered through interviews and observations during the interventions were also analyzed.
