Abstract

Borderline ovarian tumors are a heterogeneous group of epithelial neoplasms with a low malignant potential. Despite having cytological characteristics suggestive of malignancy, these tumors do not exhibit stromal invasion, although invasive implants may be present in some cases. We present a rare case of a borderline ovarian tumor and an incidentally diagnosed ectopic parathyroid adenoma. A 42-year-old female patient, previously asymptomatic, was admitted to the emergency department with complaints of pain on the left side of the back and fever. Upon further examination and referral to a gynecologic oncologist, a borderline ovarian tumor was confirmed. The patient underwent cytoreductive surgery. During adjuvant chemotherapy, the patient was examined for persistent hypercalcemia despite receiving zoledronic acid and was subsequently diagnosed with ectopic parathyroid adenoma. The patient underwent excision of the parathyroid adenoma, followed by a decrease in calcium and parathyroid hormone levels. After the completion of therapy, the patient was observed by a gynecologic oncologist.
