Abstract
Echinococcus granulous, the helminthic infection that causes hydatid cyst disease, is associated with cysts in numerous organs. The liver is the predilect site of invasion; nevertheless, depending on the type of invaded tissue, there are other cases with variable localization throughout the body. We report here a very rare case of isolated hydatid cyst in a 22-year-old female patient, who presented with swelling in the posterior median cervical region with no evidence of the disease elsewhere in the body. The purpose of this work is to describe a rare instance of primary hydatidosis in the nuchal area without a prior history of lung or liver hydatid cyst illness. In nations where hydatid cyst disease is endemic, like NORTH Africa, the diagnosis of a hydatid cyst should be taken into consideration when making a differential diagnosis of soft tissue masses.
