Abstract

Burkitt’s lymphoma, a highly aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, presents significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, especially in the pediatric population. This case report describes the clinical management of a pediatric patient who presented with an obstructive mass in the oropharynx. Diagnostic efforts included a computed tomography (CT) scan of the neck to assess the extent of the disease, and concurrent surgical interventions, a tracheotomy and biopsy of the mass, performed to secure the airway and confirm the diagnosis. The patient’s management was further complicated by the urgent need for airway management, necessitating the simultaneous performance of tracheotomy and biopsy while awaiting histopathological results. Upon confirmation of Burkitt’s lymphoma, chemotherapy was initiated immediately. This case highlights the critical importance of swift and coordinated multidisciplinary approaches in managing potentially life-threatening conditions in pediatric oncology.
