Abstract

The establishment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, a framework for discussion and mutual learning on sustainability issues in education, is being formed. With the above in mind, we will examine the participation of a kindergarten attended by purely Roma children in the European program “Underground stories” the 2024–2025 school year. The program involved 18 Roma children, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, who were attending this school year (2024–2025) in a kindergarten located in a Roma settlement in a provincial town in Greece. The toddlers collaborated with students aged 5–10 from three European countries (Greece-Italy-Turkey). The toddlers’ participation in the program’s activities aimed to develop a spirit of cooperation and collectivism, the simultaneous cultivation of the consciousness of European citizens and the preservation of cultural identity and cultural self-awareness, the development of academic digital skills, and the promotion of the value of inclusion. The program focuses on the 3rd, 4th , 11th, 12th, and 17th Sustainable Development Goals. The evaluation and results of the program offer valuable elements that promote opportunities for empowerment of vulnerable social groups and lifelong learning.
