Abstract

Objective: To characterize the particle diameter and elemental composition of five nanohybrid composite resins using electron microscopy and to compare the arithmetic roughness (Ra) after the application of various finishing and polishing systems using confocal laser microscopy. Materials and Methods: Fifty-five composite resin specimens (4 × 4 mm) were prepared and divided into five groups: G1, FORMA; G2, Tetric N-Ceram; G3, Zirconfill; G4, Vittra APS; and G5, Polofill NHT. The estimated inorganic particle diameter and percentage of chemical elements were determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), an electron probe, and the Image Pro-Plus software. Arithmetic roughness (Ra) was evaluated using confocal laser microscopy (LEXT-OLS4100) after applying five systems: Dochem, TDV (silicone), Super-fix (discs), Super-Snap, and Kenda Unicus. Data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA, and Tukey tests (p
