Abstract

After mandibular resection, which is often necessary in cases of tumor, trauma, or malformation, patients frequently present with kinematic disorders that impact mastication, swallowing, phonation, and facial balance. Masso-physiotherapy, which combines mobilization, muscle strengthening, massage, and proprioception techniques, plays a fundamental role in functional recovery and preparation for prosthetic fitting. In addition to restoring the mandibular amplitude and preventing stiffness, it helps the patient achieve better aesthetic and functional adaptation to maxillofacial prostheses. Simultaneously, specific devices such as guide appliances and assisted mechanotherapy complement rehabilitation by correcting mandibular deviations and limiting complications such as trismus. The early and progressive combination of these therapeutic approaches, including massage therapy, targeted exercises, and rehabilitative appliances, is essential for optimizing patients’ quality of life and promoting their social, functional, and psychological rehabilitation.
