Abstract

Faith based organizations continue to face the challenge of spiritual and numerical decline. Transformational leadership is identified in literature as an effective style capable of bringing a turn around to this phenomenon. This study therefore sought to examine the effect of transformational leadership, organizational structure and church growth. The data was collected from the church elders and ministers across selected PCEA presbyteries. Using a descriptive-explanatory design, the quantitative data was collected and analyzed through descriptive, regression and moderation analysis. The study applied three theories; Transformational leadership, Weber’s bureaucratic and natural church development (NCD) theories. The findings showed that transformational leadership had a statistically significant effect on church growth. Nonetheless, organizational structure as the moderating variable was found to have no significant moderating effect between transformational leadership and church growth. The findings from this study highlight the role of transformational leadership in facilitating growth in the PCEA regardless of the structural arrangements and also provide guidelines for the training and development of leaders in PCEA and beyond. This study contributes to literature by extending transformational theory in Faith-based organizations.
