Criminal justice capacity building efforts by UNAFEI

Abstract

Purpose - This is a draft of a keynote speech delivered at the 29th Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime. The purpose of the speech was to share the United Nations Asia and Pacific Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders' (UNAFEI's) half century of experience in the field of capacity building in developing countries. Design/methodology/approach - The paper briefly sketches UNAFEI's various training courses for criminal justice practitioners in developing countries. Findings - UNAFEI's capacity building efforts contribute to the improvement of criminal justice systems of participating countries; not only developing countries, but also developed countries, are better able to cope with economic crimes of a transnational nature through international cooperation. Originality/value - UNAFEI's continuous unique efforts are worth consideration.
