Abstract

Uma leitura da obra de Celso Furtado em sua conclusão abre uma visão enriquecedora da interação entre o pensamento teórico e o desvelamento da história da América Latina. Partindo de uma avaliação dos autores pré-clássicos e clássicos, Furtado delineou uma abordagem da teoria do excedente. Isso permitiria que a teoria do desenvolvimento lidasse com economias desigualmente industrializadas como o Brasil. Sua análise minuciosa dos processos de desenvolvimento e subdesenvolvimento rompeu com as experiências iniciais da ECLA para elaborar uma proposta de planejamento para o país insurgente. As raízes francesas de seu perfil acadêmico o ajudaram a manter uma explicação ordenada da demanda de capital que o manteve ao lado de Wicksell contra a teoria subjetiva de Schumpeter.
