Abstract

Os principais bancos brasileiros arrecadaram, em 2005, algo em torno de R$ 34 bilhões em tarifas bancárias, número que ajuda a estimular interpretações sobre o exagero da cobrança de tais tarifas no Brasil. Contudo, a compreensão de como os bancos obtêm seus recursos e de quais suas principais despesas nos ajuda a entender melhor o papel desempenhado pelas tarifas cobradas e quais as razões de eles insistirem na cobrança de spreads tão elevados no país.
