Abstract

Contrariamente à visão comum de que há uma mudança global em andamento para substituir a alocação governamental de recursos em favor dos mercados, a experiência brasileira sugere que os bancos públicos federais ainda desempenham um papel essencial no crescimento sustentável do país e no desafio de inclusão social. O artigo analisa as transformações pelas quais passaram esses bancos após a liberalização financeira do governo FHC e as reestruturasções recentes do setor financeiro.
