Abstract

Nos últimos anos, o discurso da gestão estratégica tornou-se comum entre os gestores de hospitais brasileiros. Com base em princípios como eficiência, desempenho e rentabilidade, tal discurso reflete o ideário comumente atribuído à tradição norte-americana de gestão hospitalar. Este artigo, fruto de uma pesquisa inédita patrocinada pelo Núcleo de Pesquisas e Publicações da FGVEAESP, analisa o modo como executivos da área de saúde do Brasil e dos Estados Unidos percebem o uso da administração estratégica em hospitais e discute os desafios específicos do país rumo à profissionalização do setor.
