Abstract

É possível observar no setor bancário mundial uma clara tendência em direção à concentração de ativos em torno de grandes instituições. Afora isso, a queda de barreiras regulatórias e os avanços tecnológicos têm contribuído para a consolidação global do sistema. Nas últimas décadas, a mesma tendência pode ser constatada no Brasil, onde aconteceram grandes fusões e aquisições, embora os bancos nacionais ainda continuem na liderança. O artigo analisa o processo de concentração bancária no Brasil e questiona até que ponto o país está preparado para enfrentá-lo.
