Abstract

Estima-se que, no Brasil, apenas 2% das 8,2 milhões de micro e pequenas empresas tenham acesso ao sistema de microfinanças. Esse enorme mercado é ocupado por financiadoras e bancos convencionais, conhecidos por praticarem estratosféricas taxas de juros. Conseqüência: uma imensa massa de potenciais clientes fica à margem do sistema financeiro formal. Este artigo analisa os desafios para o desenvolvimento do setor de microfinanças em países em desenvolvimento, especialmente o Brasil.
