Abstract

A provisão de água no município de São Paulo depende de um sistema de reservatórios, dos quais dois são particularmente importantes: Cantareira no norte e Guarapiranga-Billings no sul. A preservação dos mananciais dos dois sistemas se depara com a necessidade urgente da construção de moradias em locais adequados, especialmente no caso dos segmentos mais carentes da população, que têm de sujeitar a loteamentos informais ou de políticas de moradia social. Este artigo é decorrência de pesquisa desenvolvida na região localizada nos mananciais do reservatório Guarapiranga e tem dois objetivos: 1. traçar a emergência da proteção ambiental das áreas de manancial como problema de governo; 2. com base em entrevistas e abordagens etnográficas, refletir sobre as questões de proteção ambiental vivenciadas no dia a dia.
