New approaches to defining international comparative advantages

Author

Listed:
  • O. Salihova

Abstract

The author analyzes the dynamics of national production, value added and high-tech processing exports of 26 countries and reveals disproportions in the changes of the above mentioned indicators during recent 20 years. For the first time, it is proposed, in the calculations of the high tech component in national commodity exports, to use a weighted coefficient and to introduce, in the scientific use, new indicators of comparative advantages based on the principle of specialization, such as: RSP - Revealed Specialization of Production, CAVA - Comparative Advantage in Value Added Activity, and REX - Revealed Effective Export.
