Predstavlja li inflacija opasnost od dugorocne stagnacijec

Abstract

Iako su postojala mišljenja da umjerena inflacija može biti korisna za ekonomski rast, empirijski dokazi, koji su se akumulirali do sredine devedesetih godina prošlog stoljeca, pokazuju da je i najniža inflacija štetna. Danas je potpuno nedvojbeno da je viša stopa inflacije povezana s nižim stopama rasta. U uvjetima visoke inflacije, a recentna istraživanja ukazuju da bi to mogle biti stope rasta cijena iznad 5% godišnje, ugrožen je ekonomski rast na srednji i dugi rok, a manjim nacionalnim ekonomijama prijeti dugorocna stagnacija. Dugotrajno razdoblje niske inflacije stvorilo je opce suglasje o tome da su centralne banke, postavljaju i same sebi kao primarni cilj održavanje makroekonomske stabilnosti i borbu protiv inflacije, vrlo uspješno kontrolirale rast cijena te da je opasnost od inflacije potpuno iskorijenjena. Snažan globalni rast cijena sirovina, nafte i hrane upozorava na to da inflacija nije nestala i da najnoviji val inflacije nije monetarni fenomen.
