Computerization of industrial property administration in Korea

Author

  • Chung, Yang Sup

Abstract

The Korean Industrial Property Office (KIPO) first introduced a computer system in 1981 and it enabled KIPO to begin computer-based information processing. In 1989 KIPO launched a five-year National Intellectual Property Information System (NIPIS) plan with the goal of full computerization of KIPO's administration. Today, most of the administrative processes and trademark searches have been computerized and KIPO is expediting computerization of patent searching, trial searching, etc. Besides, KIPO is reviewing its NIPIS plan and current overall computerization to meet changes in user's requirements and technical developments, and to improve them more realistically and efficiently.
