Abstract

This paper surveys the patents output of major publishing countries and India for the years 1985, 1986 and 1987; presents the Indian patents output for the period from 1978-1979 to 1987-1988, and analyses the complete specifications accepted and notified in the Gazette of India, Part III Section 2 in the year 1987. The analysis is with reference to the country of origin, subject distribution according to the contribution of major filing countries (e.g. U.S.A., U.K., F.R.G., Switzerland and France) and minor filing countries, and the time taken for the acceptance of a patent, etc. A subjectwise breakup study of Indian origin patents has been carried out in accordance with the eight prescribed sections of the IPC. The article concludes with the 6 findings of the analysis.
