Abstract

On January 29, 2025, the global transportation research community suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Dr. Wayne K. Talley, Transportation Research Part E’s Editor-in-Chief from 2000 to 2012. Dr. Talley was a visionary scholar, leaving behind numerous lasting contributions to transportation research over a prolific 50-year period of academic publishing. This paper provides a survey of his research legacy, from his initial urban passenger transportation research to his latest maritime research. Beyond his publication record, Dr. Talley’s greatest legacy lies in the students, colleagues, and collaborators he mentored. Dr. Talley’s remarkable career is a guiding standard for transportation scholars around the globe.
