Opening the digital door: Computer networking in China

Abstract

In June 1993 Ms Zheng visited Beijing as a representative of Dr Sid Karin, director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center and foreign advisor to the Key Study Development Project of the People's Republic of China. Her task was to assess the state of computer networking in China and to collaborate with the National Computer Networking Facility of China, part of the Key Study Development Project. The following report documents the current state of computer networking in China, with particular emphasis on the problems confronting attempts to link China to the Internet.
