Satellites and integrated broadband communications : An ESA view

Author

Listed:
  • Chaplin, J.

Abstract

The definition phase of the European Commission's Research into Advanced Communications for Europe (RACE) programme has recently been completed. During this phase, it became evident to ESA and other observers that insufficient attention was being given to the role that satellite technology could play in the introduction and development of Integrated Broadband Communications in Europe. This comment is distilled from a submission which was prepared as an input to RACE, and is intended to introduce some realism into the thinking behind the planning of the RACE Main Phase.
