The influence of digital drivers on organisational digital resilience: An organisational information processing theory perspective

Abstract

Amid the fast-changing digital environment, maritime organisations are under growing pressure to strengthen their resilience to digital disruptions. This study investigates how internal digital drivers, namely digital culture, digital leadership, digital innovation, and employees' digital capabilities, contribute to organisational digital resilience, mediated by information management capability and digital transformation. Drawing on Organisational Information Processing Theory, a theoretical model was proposed and tested using data collected from 409 maritime-affiliated professionals. The model's constructs were validated, and the hypothesised relationships were evaluated using structural equation modelling. The findings revealed that all four digital drivers positively influence information management capability and digital transformation, which in turn significantly contribute to the development of organisational digital resilience. Among them, digital transformation had the highest total effect on organisational digital resilience, followed by digital culture and digital innovation. Overall, this study offers practical guidance for strengthening digital infrastructure and future-proofing maritime operations to build organisational digital resilience, as well as extending Organisational Information Processing Theory by demonstrating how digital capabilities embedded within organisational structures drive resilience through improved information processing capabilities and digital transformation.
