The effect of grouping on the power of the Mantel--Haenszel test for the comparison of survival rates

Abstract

A criterion is found which determines, for a simple case, whether pooling observations increases or decreases the asymptotic efficiency of the Mantel--Haenszel test for treatment effect, in uncensored long term comparative trials in discrete time, under arbitrary one sided alternatives.
