The nexus between the institutional quality and trade dynamics: testing the EU-Japan Economic Partnership

Abstract

The European Union and Japan are major trade partners with advanced institutional systems and highly integrated economies. Their bilateral relationship was further strengthened by the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, implemented in 2019. This paper examines whether institutional quality contributes to shaping EU-Japan trade flows, focusing separately on EU imports from Japan, EU exports to Japan and total bilateral trade.
