Research on the impact mechanism and spillover effects of green finance empowering agricultural carbon emission reduction

Abstract

Green finance is an important means to contribute to the construction of ecological civilization and plays an important role in contributing to agricultural carbon emission reduction. This paper measures the level of green finance development and agricultural carbon emissions based on Chinese provincial panel data from 2011 to 2022, and explores the mechanism and spatial effect of green finance on agricultural carbon emissions. The results show that: (1) the level of green finance development has a significant inhibitory effect on agricultural carbon emissions, and the conclusion remains unchanged after a series of robustness tests; (2) the development of green finance can promote agricultural carbon emission reduction by improving the efficiency of agricultural technology; (3) the impact of green finance on agricultural carbon emissions has a heterogeneous effect due to geographic location, and the impact effect is more pronounced in the eastern region and the western region; (4) Green finance has a significant inhibitory effect on the level of agricultural carbon emissions in this region and neighboring regions. The conclusions of this paper provide an in-depth understanding of the environmental governance effect of green finance, and actively guide financial resources to participate in agricultural carbon management.
